XI Edition of the Multidisciplinary Meeting on Indigenous Peoples (4-7 June 2024) at Sciences Po in Paris

Global Home for Indigenous Peoples was invited to present a paper titled:

Indigenous Peoples’ claim for legal recognition of their traditional territories is a way forward for asserting their right to self-determination at the XI edition of the multidisciplinary meeting on Indigenous Peoples. The event was held at Sciences Po Paris Law School in Paris from 4-7 June 2024.

Here is the presentation slide that our President, Brijlal Chaudhari presented on the 7th of June, 2024. During the presentation, he highlighted that collective rights and legal recognition of Indigenous Peoples’ traditional territories are crucial to exercising their right to self-determination as they are interlinked with their:

  • Collective identities
  • Traditional school-university, pharmacies, grocery stores
  • Governance System – customary law
  • Language
  • Food Pathways (including fishing, hunting,
    gathering)
  • Spirituality and dreams
  • Cultural Reproduction & Future
  • Well-being, livelihood, dignity
  • Economy – gift economy

He also invited academia and lawyers to work in solidarity with the Indigenous Peoples’ movement and support their legal claims for their traditional territories and natural resources.
